On October 19, SHEIN reportedly announced the launch of “SHEIN Exchange,” an online resale module for consumers to buy and sell used SHEIN products. Following requests from SHEIN fans on social networks to create a space to sell used products, the SHEIN Exchange aims to meet the needs of the fan community by providing a one-stop shop for customers to also become active participants in sustainability and promote used and new clothing sales.
“At SHEIN, we believe we have a responsibility to build a fashion world that is fair for all and have launched this initiative to reduce textile waste,” said Adam Whinston, Global Head of ESG at SHEIN. “The goal of SHEIN Exchange is to make second-hand selling as easy as buying something new, and to promote recycling within the SHEIN consumer community. Get the community to mobilize and make the most of the clothes they buy. Leveraging our ongoing community impact, we believe resale buying can become the new normal in the apparel industry.” The new modules can be found through the existing SHEIN application. SHEIN Exchange will simplify the resale process by making it easier for resale sellers to display their wares. Consumers will be able to view this new feature directly from the Previous Purchases page, allowing consumers to quickly and easily create a list for sale.
The program has been piloted in the United States and may be expanded to other countries in the future. This year, SHEIN also became one of the participants of World Circular Textiles Day, a coalition of brands, suppliers and other organizations with a shared mission to transform the fashion and textile industries completely into recyclable by 2050.
SHEIN Exchange was created in partnership with Treet, a leading technology resale platform in the United States that creates used fashion experiences for a range of fashion retailers.
