The European Central Bank (ECB) Management Committee agreed to stop the production of 500 euros banknotes in early May 2016. According to this decision, since January 2019, Bank of Spain has stopped issuing 500 euros banknotes, but they will still be legal currencies, so they may continue to circulate and use it as payment methods and value storage methods. In banks and currency exchange and other institutions, they can still use and redeem 500 euros banknotes.
