The rise in European energy prices has affected all walks of life, and so is the catering industry that gathers a large number of Chinese funds. A few days ago, the owner of a Chinese restaurant in Aberdeen, Scotland showed his own sky -high gas bill. In the quarter, the gas fee should be paid at 12,000 pounds, equivalent to nearly 100,000 yuan.
Restaurant owner, Mr. Tang, said that he has been in his own restaurant for nearly 18 years, and has been the most difficult time recently. As a small company, they have not enough money to pay for the gas cost of the quarter. In addition, Mr. Tang said that this week was just to use fresh inventory and then say goodbye to customers, because every time he opened the stove to cook, he lost money.
SSE, the gas supplier of the restaurant, said that it has negotiated with Mr. Tang and gives more preferential offers. Mr. Tang said, “The new contract still increases the electricity and natural gas costs of about 45,000 to 50,000 pounds each year. We can’t bear it.”
As one of the deepest industries in European Chinese, the catering industry must have many Chinese catering owners that have been affected in this energy crisis. Can catering owners still support it? How long can it be supported? No one knows the answer.
